Report finds fuel switches disabled on Air India plane before crash
Preliminary findings from the recent Air India plane crash have indicated that both engines were intentionally turned off after takeoff, resulting in the tragic loss of over 270 lives. The report, released by India's Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau, revealed that the engine cutoff switches were activated within a second of each other during the flight. Despite efforts to analyze data from the black boxes, investigators have yet to determine how the switches were flipped. Both engines were installed prior to the incident, with the left engine being set up on March 26, and the right engine on May 1. While one engine briefly regained thrust, the other did not, prompting a distress call from one of the pilots. This conclusion has not pointed to any specific faults with the Boeing 787-8 aircraft or its GE engines. Air India responded to the report on social media, expressing solidarity with the families impacted by the tragedy and emphasizing their commitment to supporting those affected. The investigation continues to focus on the engines and fuel control switches as the cause of the crash, as authorities work closely with Air India and relevant stakeholders during this ongoing inquiry.
