Reexamination of deadly 2023 bridge accident
Prosecutors in St. Louis are re-evaluating a fatal crash on the Jefferson Barracks Bridge from 2023 following the emergence of new evidence in a civil lawsuit. The victim's family is hopeful that criminal charges may now be brought in the case. Adam Whittington, 28, tragically passed away a day after his car was hit on I-255 within a construction zone. His aunt, Jessica Bain, expressed the family's struggle in coping with the loss of someone so young. Whittington, who was found to be intoxicated, had been involved in a minor accident and was stationed on the side of the bridge when Jennifer Jackson's Jeep rear-ended his vehicle, causing it to collide with a concrete barrier. Despite attempts to revive him, Whittington sadly succumbed to his injuries the following day. Jackson, who was driving the Jeep, faced charges of driving while intoxicated, which the victim's family deemed insufficient. Through a civil lawsuit, further investigations revealed key details that portrayed Jackson's actions leading up to the crash, including possible recklessness while driving in a construction zone. Dashcam footage introduced during court proceedings illustrated Jackson's erratic driving behavior prior to the collision. Although Jackson resolved the civil lawsuit during the trial, the victim's family pursued additional accountability. Consequently, their legal team provided evidence to the St. Louis County prosecutor's office, resulting in the initiation of a new criminal case against Jackson. COURT records are sealed at present, therefore the specific charges brought against Jackson are yet to be confirmed.
