Recovery of man's body after 'boating accident' in Washington County reservoir

In Washington County, Colorado, tragedy struck at the Prewitt Reservoir State Wildlife Area on Tuesday afternoon, leading to the death of a man in a "boating accident." Witnesses reported seeing two men setting out on Prewitt Reservoir around 1:30 p.m. One man was in the boat, while the other was on the dock. When the boat began to drift, the man on the dock swam out to it, but encountered difficulties and went underwater. The man in the boat also faced issues and had to be rescued by another boat. A joint rescue effort involving Colorado Parks and Wildlife, the Sterling Fire Department, the Washington County Sheriff's Office, and the Colorado State Patrol was launched with sonar-equipped boats and divers to search for the missing man. Sadly, his body was recovered by 3:15 p.m. The identity and cause of death will be disclosed later by the Washington County coroner. Notably, the men were not wearing life jackets during the incident. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is conducting an investigation into the incident.
