Recovering from drunk driving accident, Pensacola victim walks after 19 months - WMBB

After being in a severe car accident caused by a drunk driver in July 2023, Erika Brigman has made an impressive recovery, now able to walk without assistance. She spent a year recuperating in North Carolina with her family before returning to Pensacola to complete her recovery process. Brigman sustained multiple injuries including fractures to her foot, leg, kneecaps, arm, and a punctured lung, with the most severe damage to her back due to the seatbelt breaking it. Despite the challenging journey, Brigman reflects on how grateful she is for her life today, a sentiment she never would have believed during her initial hospitalization. During the accident, Brigman was with her friend, Annah Lewis, who stayed by her side as she was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital, where medical professionals were amazed by her survival considering the significant internal injuries. Medical staff, including Christie Jandora, the Emergency Services Director, noted the rarity of witnessing the long-term recovery of patients like Brigman, often losing touch once they leave the hospital, highlighting the extraordinary nature of Brigman's progress.
