Recall of witness to fatal motorcycle crash on I-64 in Hampton
A tragic multi-vehicle crash occurred on Interstate 64 eastbound in Hampton, Virginia, resulting in the death of a motorcyclist named Christopher Matthew Dawson. The incident involved a 2022 Nissan Murano, a 2024 Suzuki GSX motorcycle, and a 2000 Ford Excursion driven by Dionicio Moreno, who failed to stop and struck the motorcycle from behind, leading to the ejection of the motorcyclist. A witness, Zalando Dahn, recounted the moment of impact and his immediate response to assist. The motorcyclist was later identified and pronounced dead at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Despite the efforts of bystanders and emergency personnel who arrived at the scene, Dawson ultimately succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the Ford Excursion, Moreno, was charged with reckless driving in connection to the incident. The authorities confirmed that speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
