Rashee Rice admits guilt and receives 5 years probation for Dallas accident

Former SMU football star Rashee Rice, who is now a wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, has admitted guilt in connection to a high-speed crash that took place in Dallas last year. Rice entered a guilty plea on Thursday for the charges of felony racing on the highway and felony accident causing serious bodily injury. As part of his agreement, he will serve five years of probation, including a requirement to spend 30 days in the Dallas County jail. Rice has already paid around $115,000 in restitution to cover the victims' medical expenses. In a statement released through his attorney, Rice expressed remorse for the repercussions of the crash and emphasized the importance of safe driving practices. The Dallas County District Attorney highlighted the responsibility that comes with a high profile and endorsed Rice's efforts to make amends and learn from the incident. Despite not being in custody yet, Rice is arranging to turn himself in soon. The incident occurred on U.S. Highway 75 North when Rice, driving a Lamborghini, and another individual, Theodore Knox, in a Corvette, were involved in a high-speed race that led to a multi-vehicle collision. Both drivers had been accused of consuming alcohol prior to the crash. The lawsuit filed by some of the victims alleges reckless behavior and seeks significant damages. Rice, who grew up in North Richland Hills and played college football at SMU before joining the NFL, has been a part of high-profile events like the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl victory in 2023.
