
Racine collision injures 11; driver connected to deadly hit-and-run
A traffic collision occurred in Racine on Wednesday, involving a red SUV that resulted in 11 people being injured. The driver of the SUV was taken into custody at the scene. Video footage captured the SUV swerving on 16th Street, hitting a Jeep, and then crashing into a city bus. Racine authorities have confirmed that all of the injured individuals are expected to recover from their injuries. The driver, identified as 20-year-old Shamya Anderson, was arrested at the scene. A spokesperson for the Racine County District Attorney's office, Patricia Hanson, has stated she is working on filing charges due to the significant number of victims in the crash. Legal documents have revealed that Anderson is also a suspect in a fatal hit-and-run incident that took place in Racine last December, where a 44-year-old man lost his life. Anderson had been released from custody in February on a signature bond related to that case. The court paperwork from the hit-and-run states that Anderson confessed to not having a valid driver's license. Anderson's older brother was surprised to hear about her arrest, but expressed belief in a higher power to protect them. Records from the county jail indicate that Anderson is currently incarcerated there.
