Racine collision: 11 injured, 20-year-old driver in custody

A collision involving a city bus in Racine on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 3 resulted in eleven injuries and the arrest of a woman. The Racine Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 3:30 p.m. near 16th and Murray when a Nissan traveling west on 16th crossed into oncoming traffic, rear-ended a Jeep, and then collided with a city bus. David Reyes, a passenger on the bus, described hearing the impact during his commute home from work. Fortunately, the 11 injured individuals are expected to recover, most of whom were high school students. The 20-year-old driver of the Nissan was arrested and transported to a hospital for treatment. The accident has raised concerns about reckless driving in the community, prompting Racine police to encourage individuals with relevant information to reach out to the RPD at 262-635-7756.
