Racers on Eagan highway reached speeds over 100 mph before fatal wreck, warrant reveals
Authorities claim that a street race involving three drivers resulted in a fatal crash in the southern Twin Cities metro area earlier this month. The incident occurred on June 14 at the intersection of Highway 149 and Highway 55 in Eagan, Minnesota. According to court documents from WCCO, the drivers of a Jeep Compass, Honda Accord, and Dodge Durango were reportedly racing at speeds exceeding 100 mph in a 45 mph zone when the Jeep and Honda lost control. The Honda landed in a ditch, while the Jeep struck a light pole, leading to it splitting in half. Unfortunately, the Jeep driver, 19-year-old Reed Schultz from Savage, passed away in the crash, while an 18-year-old passenger from Edina is in critical condition and unlikely to survive. The owner of the Honda, a 20-year-old man from White Bear Lake, fled the scene but was later located at St. John's Hospital where he admitted to his involvement in the crash. Despite this, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
