PVTA bus hits SUV, building on Main Street in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Police are investigating after a crash involving a PVTA bus in Springfield, leaving multiple people injured. The Springfield Fire Department stated that at approximately 7:37 a.m. on Saturday, crews were called to 991 Main Street for a PVTA bus colliding with an SUV. The bus breached the front of Milano Imported Fine Foods, located at 931 Main Street. The business closed in February, but the building sustained significant damage. Three people, the PVTA bus driver and two occupants in the SUV, were brought to the hospital to be treated for injuries. 22News crews at the site of the crash observed fire, police, and construction crews on scene, with nearby residents coming out to watch. Cleanup efforts were underway to remove the bus and any debris, such as a fallen traffic light pole. The scene was secured before 11 a.m. when the bus was towed. Main Street was also temporarily closed and has since reopened. It is unknown how many passengers were on the bus at this time. The Springfield Police Department Traffic Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. PVTA released the following statement to 22News:
