Pune lawyer dies as speeding car rams into his motorcycle, car driver arrested

A 34-year-old lawyer was killed after a speeding car allegedly knocked down his motorcycle while he was out to buy vegetables in Manerwadi in the Pune district on Wednesday evening, the police said. The police have identified the deceased as Aniket Arun Bhalerao, a resident of Wardade village in Haveli taluka, who was practising at the Shivajinagar court in Pune city. The car driver was arrested on Friday and had his vehicle seized, said police inspector Sachin Wangade of Haveli police station. According to the police, Bhalerao was hit by the car near Hotel Tarangan on Panshet Road around 4 pm. Under the impact of the crash, the lawyer received multiple injuries and was lying in a pool of blood on the road, the police said. The residents alerted the police and rushed him to a local hospital, but the doctors pronounced him dead. The police said the car driver, identified as Raj Chorge, a resident of Katraj area, also sustained injuries in the accident and was then admitted to a private hospital. Wangade said the car driver’s blood samples have been taken for medical examination to determine whether he was drunk at the time of the accident. “Further investigation is on,” he said. The police at Haveli police station registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the car driver on Thursday based on the complaint of the lawyer's relative, Shantaram Bhalerao.
