Provo arrest: Man with gunshot injury charged with DUI

A man named Oscar Diaz, 34, was arrested on Friday for driving under the influence following a car accident, where it was discovered he had also sustained a gunshot wound to the head. Diaz, who has a history of DUI arrests, was taken into custody on numerous charges after police were alerted by his family about his drinking behavior at a Provo restaurant. When officers arrived at the scene, they found Diaz walking away from the crash involving a white Nissan Altima. Court records indicate that Diaz was acting agitated and couldn't stay still. During a search of Diaz's vehicle, authorities found an open bottle of alcohol and marijuana. Diaz admitted to using methamphetamine the day before and consuming alcohol on the day of the incident. He also confessed to accidentally discharging a gun while playing with it inside a friend's vehicle. Despite sustaining a head injury from the gunshot, the friend only dropped Diaz off at a family member's residence and didn't seek medical help. Diaz, who is prohibited from consuming alcohol and driving, tested positive for multiple substances during the DUI arrest, marking his third arrest for this offense in seven years with one prior conviction.
