Prosecutor deciding whether teen should be tried as adult for deadly crash in Roseville pursuit

A 16-year-old boy is facing the possibility of being tried as an adult after allegedly causing a fatal crash while evading Roseville police over the weekend. The Macomb County Prosecutor's office, led by Pete Lucido, is currently reviewing the case to determine the appropriate charges for the teenager. The incident began when police attempted to stop a stolen Hyundai Sonata reported at around 2:40 a.m. on Saturday. The driver of the stolen car fled from officers, leading them on a pursuit that ended tragically when the driver ran a red light and collided with a Ford Fusion driven by 28-year-old Uber driver Alex Habib, who later succumbed to his injuries at a hospital. The teenage driver of the stolen car was also hospitalized for non-life-threatening injuries before being taken to the Macomb County Juvenile Justice Center. Prosecutors are considering whether the teen should be tried as an adult, with a preliminary exam scheduled for July 18. Lucido is advocating for changes in laws concerning fleeing police to prevent incidents like this in the future.
