Promoting safe driving in memory of Lexy through second 'Love for Lexy' car show

The Billings Heights reverberated with the sound of engines last Saturday as a multitude of vehicles gathered to pay tribute to the memory of 19-year-old Alexus "Lexy" Pyle from Laurel, who tragically lost her life in a crash in 2021. The event also aimed to raise funds for the cause that upholds her legacy. Lexy was a passenger in a collision near downtown Billings, where the driver, Payton Hunter, was found to have been speeding and under the influence. The driver later admitted to having consumed alcohol before the incident. In 2024, almost three years after the crash, Hunter was convicted of criminal endangerment and received a five-year sentence with the Montana Department of Corrections. Lexy's family established the Love for Lexy Foundation in 2022, turning their sorrow into a positive force. The foundation offers scholarships for students pursuing nursing careers, a dream that Lexy aspired to fulfill. It also provides support for those in need during Christmas and prom season. Lexy's sister, Taylor Dunn, emphasized the importance of raising awareness about the dangers of drunk and reckless driving. The second annual Love for Lexy car show took place at the All American Pharmaceutical parking lot. Yellow sunflowers, Lexy's favorite flower and a symbol of her radiant personality, adorned the event. The car show was organized by the Ride Out Car Club Montana chapter, committed to using their love for cars to give back to the community. Participants at the event shared their passion for cars and united in supporting the foundation's cause. The organizers aimed to raise $5,000 and attract between 200 and 800 attendees. The event's proceeds will be directed to the Love for Lexy Foundation, which has already awarded four scholarships worth $500 each this year.
