
Prison term for man in 2024 wrong-way crash in Johnson County
A man from New Jersey has been sentenced following a 2024 wrong-way crash in Johnson County that resulted in the death of his passenger. Matthew Karabas received over eight years in prison after pleading guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter while under the influence and attempted aggravated battery. The incident occurred on Interstate 35 near Edgerton, where Karabas was driving the wrong way and collided with a semi truck. Sadly, his passenger, 22-year-old Eric Diaz from Florida, was pronounced dead at the scene. Karabas, who was not wearing a seat belt during the crash, sustained serious injuries and was taken to a medical center for treatment.
