Preliminary report: Pilot advised against flying over the river before fatal crash
The preliminary report from the National Transportation Safety Board revealed that the wife of the pilot who tragically died in a plane crash near Fremont had advised him against flying along the river due to the fading light. The crash also claimed the lives of two other passengers, Jeff Bittinger and Randy Amrein. The group had arrived at Fremont Municipal Airport from Moundridge, Kansas, with plans for a brief flight, while the pilot's wife waited at the airport. Tragically, the crash occurred shortly after takeoff. Witnesses observed the plane collide with power lines over the Platte River before crashing into the water.
