Preliminary NTSB report on Fremont plane crash indicates it was preventable
On Wednesday, the National Transportation Safety Board released a preliminary report on the recent plane crash in Fremont. The report was issued three weeks following the incident and documents key details surrounding the tragedy. It indicates that the plane had flown from Moundridge, Kansas, to Fremont Airport before embarking on its fatal journey at around 8 p.m. Eyewitness accounts and environmental conditions at the time of the crash are also highlighted. Notably, witnesses reported the plane hitting power lines, resulting in the detachment of the tail section. A video of the crash was recorded by one eyewitness and has been obtained by KETV Investigates. Scott Vlasek, an aviation expert from the University of Nebraska Omaha, commented on the incident, expressing that such collisions are preventable. He mentioned that flying at low altitudes when not taking off or landing should be avoided to enhance safety. The report also reveals that the pilot, David Miller, had been advised by his spouse against flying over the river due to challenging lighting conditions at dusk. Vlasek conveyed his sympathies for the families affected by the tragedy, underscoring that precaution in aviation is crucial for safety. Despite the unfortunate event, he reassured that flying remains a safe mode of travel but necessitates careful attention and respect.
