PPD: Crash, injuries, and arrest from street racing

The Pueblo Police Department (PPD) reported that a crash into a home and a subsequent engine fire occurred in southern Pueblo due to three vehicles engaging in a street race. This incident took place in the early hours of Sunday, April 6, in the 3200 block of Pueblo Boulevard. Police noticed the racing cars heading west near South Prairie Avenue. One of the vehicles crashed into a home on Elmwood Circle, causing significant damage. Two women were found inside the car, with 18-year-old Jaiden Maes allegedly driving. The engine caught fire, prompting officers to address the situation until fire personnel arrived. Both individuals were taken to the hospital for assessment, with the passenger sustaining serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Maes, who escaped serious harm, was subsequently taken to the Pueblo County Detention Center. Charges against Maes include Vehicular Reckless Assault, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle, Driving Without a Valid License, and Displaying an Expired Number Plate. PPD emphasized the grave risks posed by speeding and street racing to drivers, passengers, community members, and property.
