Police probe death of man hit by car in Pittsburgh
A tragic incident occurred in Pittsburgh's Bluff neighborhood early Saturday morning when a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle. Authorities were alerted to the scene on Vine Street at Fifth Avenue just before 2:30 a.m., where they found a man with severe head injuries from the collision. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries hours later. The victim's identity is yet to be disclosed. The driver, identified as Kamal Prasad Upreti, 34, was restrained by bystanders at the scene as he attempted to flee on foot. Upreti was taken into custody and was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol. Surveillance footage captured the sequence of events, showing Upreti hitting both the pedestrian and an excavator before trying to leave. Upreti now faces charges including DUI and reckless driving. Friends referred to the victim as "Uncle Dre," sharing their fond memories of his generous and caring nature. The City's Vision Zero Fatal Crash Response Team, in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Police Collision Investigation Unit, will investigate the factors contributing to the incident.
