Police officer injured in motorcycle accident during charity event motorcade

A motorcade of Montgomery County police officers on motorcycles was involved in an accident on I-95 in Philadelphia Thursday morning, causing a traffic blockage. The incident occurred as the officers were en route to the WMMR radio "Camp Out for Hunger" event. During the procession near Washington Avenue, one officer's motorcycle made contact with a disabled van on the shoulder, possibly due to the van's door swinging open. This resulted in a collision that caused two officers to fall off their bikes. One officer was able to stand up independently, while the other required assistance from fellow officers. Both officers, representing the Upper Dublin and Abington police departments, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are in stable condition. The motorcade paused at the scene, briefly impacting traffic flow during rush hour, before resuming around 8:15 a.m. The "Camp Out for Hunger" event, which benefits Philabundance, took on added significance this year amid heightened food insecurity issues due to SNAP benefit interruptions. The weeklong food drive started with the "Phil-a-Trunk" event, where car owners loaded up their vehicles with food donations for Philabundance.
