Police officer in Anne Arundel County faces charges in deadly collision
A police officer from the Anne Arundel County Police Department is being charged following a deadly accident in Howard County. The incident occurred on August 10, 2024, when a motorcycle collided with a flatbed truck, resulting in the death of 21-year-old Joshual VanderZiel. The Maryland Attorney General's Office stated that the truck was making a left turn when the speeding motorcycle crashed into it. Subsequent investigations revealed that Officer Rodriguez, driving a police cruiser, had engaged in an unauthorized high-speed chase that led to the fatal crash. Rodriguez then fled the scene without offering aid or reporting the incident. The Attorney General condemned the officer's actions as a breach of public trust and a danger to community safety.
