Police officer from Anne Arundel County charged in deadly accident

Around 4 o'clock in the morning on August 10 last year, Joshua Vanderziel lost his life after crashing his motorcycle into a flatbed truck on Washington Boulevard. Witnesses observed a dark vehicle, possibly law enforcement, leaving the crash site immediately after the incident. Chief Allison Green of the Attorney General’s Independent Investigations Division stated that dashboard camera footage revealed an officer, Alexander Rodriguez of the Anne Arundel County Police, was involved in a high-speed chase with Vanderziel for four miles across several counties. This chase did not have emergency lights or sirens activated, and Rodriguez did not seek approval from superiors. After the crash, Rodriguez failed to return to the scene, report the collision, provide aid, or request medical assistance. Vanderziel, a Russian linguist for the Navy, tragically lost his life. Officer Rodriguez has been suspended without pay and is facing two charges of manslaughter following an investigation.
