Police officer charged after hit-and-run accident in Albuquerque

An Albuquerque police officer has been charged after leaving the scene of an accident near Central Avenue and Coors Boulevard on Thursday night.According to Albuquerque police, Ezekiel Florez has been charged with knowingly leaving the scene of an accident with great bodily harm. Police officials say Florez hit a pedestrian while speeding on a motorcycle. Police say witnesses told investigators tat the pedestrian was crossing Central Ave. at a crosswalk when a white motorcycle hit the pedestrian. Witnesses noted the motorcycle was driving at a high rate of speed at the time of the crash. Surveillance video near the scene showed police that the light on Central was green when the motorcycle hit the pedestrian who was running across Central.Investigators say there were two people on the motorcycle at the time of the crash. They have both been identified as Florez and Officer Krystal Garcia. Both were off-duty at the time of the crash. Police say Garcia called another officer and said she and Florez were involved in the crash. Both Garcia and Florez returned to the scene and were detained during the investigation. Both officers have been placed on administrative leave. Garcia has not been charged with a crime.
