Police investigating North Providence crash
NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a woman was hit and killed by a car in North Providence Wednesday. North Providence Police Chief Alfredo Ruggiero told 12 News the 69-year-old woman lost her footing and fell while walking along Garfield Street near Mineral Spring Avenue. Ruggiero said the driver who hit her, identified as a 21-year-old man, did not see the woman fall and ran her over. He said this appears to be a "tragic accident." The driver is cooperating with the investigation and is not facing charges at this time, according to Ruggiero.
