Police in Independence investigate deadly collision
The Independence Police Department is currently investigating a fatal accident involving an Axis M200 motorcycle. The incident occurred at around 9 p.m. on Thursday when the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on U.S. 24 Highway and attempted to turn north onto Sterling Avenue. The driver ended up going in the wrong direction on the highway and tried to make a northbound turn from the southbound Sterling Avenue to westbound U.S. 24 Highway lane. Unfortunately, the driver was unable to navigate the turn successfully and collided with a concrete curb at the intersection, resulting in the driver being ejected and sustaining serious injuries. Despite being taken to the hospital, the driver later passed away. The driver was not wearing any safety gear at the time of the accident, and police had been attempting to stop the driver before the crash due to multiple traffic violations. The driver's identity has not been disclosed by the police, citing the driver's age as the reason for confidentiality.
