Police ID Bristol couple killed in fiery Swansea crash
SWANSEA, Mass. (WPRI) — The Bristol County District Attorney's office has identified the Bristol couple killed in a fiery crash in Swansea last week. Shortly after midnight on Friday, police saw a white Infiniti G37 speed past them on Route 6 and then crash into the side of a Subaru Ascent that was traveling southbound on Route 136. Both vehicles sustained "catastrophic damage," according to Swansea police, and the Subaru became engulfed in flames. First responders and bystanders attempted to put out the flames, but the two people inside were pronounced dead at the scene. The DA's office identified the victims Monday as 54-year-old Carolyn Carcasi and her husband 53-year-old James Carcasi, of Bristol, Rhode Island. The driver of the Infiniti, identified as 28-year-old Demitri Sousa, was transported to the hospital with serious injuries. Police said Sousa was wanted in connection with a homicide investigation in Cranston just hours before the crash. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing at this time.
