Police cruiser rolls in crash while responding to another call

A police officer and another driver were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after a crash in Waltham, Massachusetts, that resulted in the cruiser rolling over. The cruiser was being driven to another call when the collision occurred at the intersection of Totten Pond Road and Third Avenue at approximately 8:25 a.m., fire officials said.Photos from the scene show the cruiser rolled and came to rest on the driver's side. A Toyota Camry had front-end damage. Fire officials said the officer was able to get themselves out of the cruiser, and they were later taken to Lahey Hospital for treatment of scrapes and bruises. The driver of the Toyota was also taken to Lahey."Fortunately the person was able to self extricate and it wasn’t more serious. Air bags did deploy in both vehicles. And, again, minor injuries is the best we can hope for in those kinds of scenarios," said Waltham Fire Lt. Mike Murphy.Area traffic will be impacted while the investigation is ongoing, police said, and drivers are asked to seek alternate routes and expect delays.
