
Police chase ends with vehicle crashing down Allegheny County hillside
A vehicle crashed and ended up stuck down a hillside near a creek in Shaler Township after a police chase Wednesday afternoon.Surveillance video captures the moment of the crash: Watch the video aboveVideo from Sky 4, Pittsburgh's only news chopper, showed a blue car on its roof among heavy brush in a wooded area near 8th Avenue. The vehicle remained stuck for several hours before it could be removed by a tow truck.The driver was in the hospital Wednesday evening. It's unclear if that person needed to be extracted from the car or was able to get out on their own.Details surrounding the crash and the driver are still unknown, but the incident reportedly began as a pursuit of a stolen vehicle in the city of Butler.Sky 4 flies over the crash scene: Watch the video aboveNorthern Regional Police Chief Bryan DeWick told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 that officers encountered a stolen vehicle southbound on Route 8 and followed the car until the driver turned onto a dead-end street."At that point, we attempted a traffic stop, and the suspect drove through several yards and evaded our officers. We had no further contact with the suspect after that," DeWick said in an email.DeWick said Hampton police were the next department to make contact with the suspect. The timeline after that is unclear, but the vehicle eventually ended up on its roof down the hillside.Shaler police said that police in Butler would be handling the investigation.
