Police: alcohol and drug impairment suspected in fatal OH crash

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- A two-vehicle crash just northwest of Defiance, OH, left one person dead Monday morning. The vehicles collided near State Road 15 and Deerfoot Drive around 11:25 a.m., the Ohio State Highway Patrol said. According to a release, a 2005 GMC Sierra pickup truck driven by Mark Riebsehl, 58, was traveling east, crossed the center line and crashed head-on into a 2020 GMC Terrain SUV driven by Dewey Nagel, 67. Nagel, who was wearing a seatbelt, was pronounced dead at the scene. Riebsehl, who was not wearing a seatbelt, sustained serious injury and was airlifted to a hospital. His passenger, Avery Calhoun, 22, also was seriously injured and taken to a hospital. Calhoun was wearing a seatbelt. All three people were from Defiance. Police say "alcohol and drug impairment is suspected in the crash," which remains under investigation.
