Plane crash reported in field near Broomfield

DENVER (KDVR) -- At least one person is dead after a small plane crashed in a field near Broomfield on Saturday morning. Mark Daugherty, deputy chief of operations for North Metro Fire Rescue, told FOX31's Kasia Kerridge that the crash was a "tragic incident" and there were no survivors. Daugherty said that at least one person was dead and could not confirm how many people were on board the plane. The plane took off from the Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, and Daugherty said it immediately tried to return. He said that emergency services were notified of an aircraft emergency around 10 a.m., and as crews were responding, they were alerted that the plane had crashed. When NMFR arrived on the scene, the plane was on fire and Daugherty said they were able to extinguish the fire rapidly. The airport said in a post on X that the plane was a Beechcraft twin-engine airplane. The airport said that the pilot called the Air Traffic Control tower, reporting an issue with the door being opened. The small plane crashed in a field east of Brainard Road in Broomfield. The road is closed in the area. Daugherty said that the National Transportation Safety Board, Federal Aviation Administration, Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport, Broomfield Police Department and Boulder County Sheriff's Office are investigating.
