Person arrested in fatal 2024 boat crash by Howard Frankland Bridge
A Tampa resident has been arrested in connection with a fatal boating accident that took place near the Howard Frankland Bridge on July 3, 2024. Travis Stewart, 39, is facing charges from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) and the Hillsborough County State Attorney's Office for his involvement in the incident. According to investigators, Stewart was driving a 20-foot boat in Old Tampa Bay with a passenger, Jonathan Boucvalt, 44, when he collided with a barge near the bridge. Boucvalt was thrown from the boat and tragically succumbed to his injuries. FWC investigators determined that Stewart fled the scene and was under the influence at the time of the accident. Major Evan Laskowski, Southwest Regional Commander of the FWC, emphasized the collaborative efforts that led to bringing justice in this case. Stewart is facing charges including vessel homicide, BUI manslaughter, and violating navigation rules resulting in serious bodily harm or death.
