Perry receives 26-year prison term for fatal DUI collision
In Peoria, Illinois, a Hanna City man was given a 26-year prison sentence this week for a fatal crash in 2023. During the sentencing, Jeremy E. Perry expressed remorse for the pain caused in the accident that resulted in the death of a mother of five and severe injuries to her son. Perry, 45, pleaded guilty to two counts of aggravated DUI related to the crash and was sentenced to 14 years for one count and 12 years for the other, to be served consecutively. As part of his plea deal, other charges were dropped. The judge considered Perry’s circumstances and ruled out probation, stating he must serve at least 85% of his sentence. The crash occurred after Perry fled from law enforcement and collided with the victim’s vehicle. Toxicology tests revealed he was under the influence of cannabis and methamphetamine at the time.
