Residents are raising concerns after a series of crashes at the intersection of Newmark Drive and Humphrey Boulevard in Deltona, where multiple incidents have been caught on camera in recent months.Exclusive video from Sunday shows a car speeding through a stop sign and causing a crash. A similar video captured in December shows a white car running the same stop sign, highlighting what neighbors describe as an ongoing safety issue.'Boom'Steve Gray, a Deltona resident, said he was seriously injured at the two-way stop intersection about a year ago while out walking.“I made it to the driveway when I heard, 'Boom,'” Gray said. “A car ran the stop sign, hit a pickup truck, and that pickup truck, in turn, hit me and put me on the ground.”>> Subscribe to the WESH 2 YouTube channelGray spent a month in the hospital following the crash. He said his mobility has worsened since the incident.“I still try and walk every day, but I can’t go as far as I used to because it’s hard to breathe, and I don’t sleep because I’m in pain,” he said.'I won’t let my child ride the bus'A flashing warning sign on Humphrey Boulevard alerts drivers to the intersection ahead, but neighbors say it has done little to prevent collisions.Ryan Hendrix, who lives at the corner, said he has contacted the city multiple times about the issue and worries about safety in the area.“I won’t let my child ride the bus because I’m worried about that walk in the morning or in the afternoon,” Hendrix said.Deltona Commissioner Davison Heriot acknowledged the repeated crashes and said the city is taking steps to address the problem.“I don’t want to see accidents — repeated accidents — at an intersection,” Heriot said.Heriot added that city staff is working to bring in a third-party traffic consultant to determine the most effective safety improvements for the intersection.City officials have not announced a timeline for potential changes. However, the city said this on Wednesday morning: "2025 Traffic Analysis completed, the results is the intersection does not meet the threshold for signalization. Accidents reported from January 2018 until August 26, 2025, found careless drivers, stops signs ignored/ran, fail to obey a traffic control device, improper lane/U-Turn, fail to yield, following to close with no indication that the intersection itself is/was the underlying contributing factor or problem. After the last accident in January 2026, staff undertook analysis of other traffic control measures besides signalization, including possible four-way stop controlled intersection. Staff is looking at a task authorization for a third-party traffic analysis and looking to identify funding resources. The Traffic Division modified the yellow lines on Newmark Drive from Treehaven Drive to Salters Court to eliminate the passing zone in this location. 30" stop signs were upgraded to 36" stop signs. All vegetation as you approach the intersection from both roadways is being monitored to ensure that clear line of sight is maintained."The city added: "It warrants mentioning that there are several traffic control devices as you approach the intersection both on Newmark Drive & Humphrey Boulevard:Humphrey Boulevard – north-west boundStop Sign Ahead SignageFlashing Intersection Ahead Signage (this replaced the rumble strips previously installed and removed due to resident noise complaints).Newmark Drive – south boundIntersection Ahead Signage45° curve signsNewmark Drive – north boundIntersection Ahead Signage45° curve signs>> Download the WESH 2 app to stay up to date on breaking news and weather
