Pedestrian fatally struck by suspected drunk driver in Belleville
Authorities in Belleville, Illinois are investigating a tragic incident that occurred last week involving a suspected DUI crash resulting in the death of a pedestrian. The accident took place on Friday, June 6, at around 8:30 p.m. on Centreville Avenue. Upon receiving a call about a pedestrian being hit by a vehicle, law enforcement rushed to the scene to find a 60-year-old man severely injured and unconscious on the road. Despite being taken to the hospital, the man succumbed to his injuries. The driver, a 61-year-old man operating a 1998 Chevrolet S-10, was cooperative with authorities at the scene. Although initially taken into custody under suspicion of driving under the influence, he was later released pending further investigation. The victim's identity has not been disclosed.
