
Part of Mass. Pike reopens after both directions closed by crash
The Massachusetts Turnpike was closed in both directions in Palmer for a time Thursday afternoon after a serious crash. The crash happened just before 3 p.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 90 at mile marker 64.5. Massachusetts State Police said a "vehicle rear-ended a tractor trailer resulting in serious injuries and entrapment" in the westbound lanes.The eastbound lanes of the highway reopened at about 4:45 p.m.From Sky 5, a gray Mercedes sedan could be seen wedged under the rear of a tractor trailer, which was in the breakdown lane.The roadway was closed to allow LifeFlight to land on the highway. I-90 westbound traffic was being diverted via exit 78 in Sturbridge, MassDOT said.Check your drive Drivers are advised to seek alternative routes and avoid the area if possible.Another serious crash involving a school van and a tractor-trailer closed down part of the westbound Pike in Palmer on Wednesday. The driver of the van was cited and suffered non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.
