Parents share details of teen son in coma due to e-scooter crash

One week ago, 14-year-old Sincyire Robinson Mathis was severely hurt in an e-scooter accident in Delaware County. He was quickly taken to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where he is currently in a coma and facing a life-threatening situation. The incident occurred on August 5 when the e-scooter he was on with a friend collided with a pickup truck on North Bishop Avenue in Springfield. The other young person on the scooter with Mathis sustained a broken arm. Thankfully, the truck driver stayed at the scene and is assisting with the police inquiry. Sincyire was gearing up to start high school as a freshman just a few days later, but now his future is uncertain due to severe injuries including a brain injury, a collapsed lung, facial fractures, and a broken arm. His parents, Quinnshetta Mathis and Tyrik Robinson, are heartbroken but are standing by his side, hoping and praying for his recovery. Both parents describe Sincyire as a polite, helpful, and bright young individual. They are sharing their story in hopes of highlighting the significance of wearing helmets and adhering to safety measures while riding e-scooters, emphasizing the need for protection to prevent accidents like this. In light of recent e-scooter accidents, there is a legislative initiative in Harrisburg called "Abby's Law" that aims to enforce regulations such as mandatory helmet use and age restrictions for scooters. The law is named after Abby Gillon, who lost her life in an e-scooter accident in late June. Sincyire's parents back any efforts that could save lives and avoid similar tragedies. While facing this tough time, Sincyire's parents are trying to remain optimistic, taking each day as it comes and continuing to pray for his recovery. They hold onto hope for his healing, recognizing that it will require time and patience.
