Overnight Tractor Trailer Crash Shuts Down Sections of I-787, Lanes Reopen

A tractor trailer crash during the night resulted in the closure of sections of I-787 northbound near exit 8 in Watervliet, N.Y. The lanes have since been reopened following the incident. New York State Police reported that the crash occurred at approximately 12:30 a.m. when a passenger car traveling south entered the northbound lanes and collided with a Stewart's Shops gas tanker traveling north. The driver of the passenger car, identified as 25-year-old Chris Buregeya of Rensselaer, was found to be driving under the influence and was arrested. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported in the accident. The lanes were temporarily closed as authorities conducted investigations and cleanup, but were reopened at around 4 a.m. after repairs were made to the guardrail by Department of Transportation crews. Buregeya is scheduled to appear in court on April 22.
