Outcome for Clearwater Ferry post boat collision

Local leaders were filled with hope for the Clearwater Ferry in February after the Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority took over the service. More people were utilizing the ferry compared to pre-pandemic levels. However, a tragic incident occurred two months later when a Palm Harbor man passed away, and 10 others were injured in a crash involving Jannus Live owner Jeff Knight’s boat colliding with the back of the ferry, impacting the service's safety reputation. The service has been temporarily halted but is set to resume on May 8, as stated by Amanda Baird, a Pinellas transit agency spokesperson. Pinellas County Commissioner Brian Scott emphasized the importance of the ferry as a solution to traffic congestion on Clearwater’s Memorial Causeway. Despite the recent incident, Scott and Max McCann from the transit board believe that having multiple transportation options is vital for the safety of Pinellas residents and visitors. The ferry, although temporarily affected by the crash, has been a popular and cost-effective mode of transportation for many, and is expected to rebound once operational again.
