OSP identifies driver in hit-and-run that killed 22-year-old in Brown County

Law enforcement has identified the driver suspected in the tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man. The accident occurred early Friday morning along State Route 125 in Jefferson Township, Ohio. The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that a body was discovered by a Rumpke driver along the roadside, prompting a 911 call. It was determined that the man, identified as Caleb Holbert from Russellville, had been struck by a vehicle that fled the scene, leading to his death. Evidence found at the site, including a Ford vehicle part, suggests the suspect vehicle may be of that make. While the driver of the Ford Escape allegedly involved in the incident has been identified by OSP, they have not yet been charged. Upon the completion of further investigation, charges will be brought forth to the Brown County Prosecutor’s Office. Despite not being in custody at present, the driver is cooperating with the prosecutor's office. Additional details revealed that the driver was traveling east on State Route 125, whereas Holbert was walking in the opposite direction on the opposite shoulder, resulting in the collision. The driver then left the scene following the crash.
