OSHA penalizes Chicopee Concrete $58K for fatal workplace incident
Chicopee Concrete Service has been fined nearly $58,000 by OSHA as a result of a fatal workplace incident earlier this year. The penalties were levied after the death of Matthew Nedorostek, 66, from Westfield, who tragically died from asphyxiation after falling into a cement hopper at a Greenfield work site in January. The OSHA investigation found that Nedorostek was trying to clear a blockage in the hopper when the accident happened. OSHA cited Chicopee Concrete Service for 14 violations, including inadequate training and the lack of a proper guardrail system. The company is currently disputing the fines issued by OSHA.
