One person killed in deadly crash on NC 268 in Wilkes County
Tragically, a deadly accident occurred on NC 268 near Abtco Road in Wilkes County amidst rainy weather conditions last weekend. The incident involved a westbound Nissan Sentra and an eastbound Toyota Tacoma colliding head-on on Sunday at around 10 p.m. The Nissan driver, Gary Michael Johnson, 74, from North Wilkesboro, sadly lost his life in the crash after not being restrained by a seatbelt. Fortunately, the Toyota driver, 18-year-old Easton Kinnedi Townsend from Ronda, emerged unharmed. Authorities reported that factors such as speed or impairment were not attributed to the accident. NC 268 was temporarily closed for approximately two hours for investigations before being reopened. It has been stated that no charges will be brought in relation to this collision.
