
One person injured in a buggy collision in Herkimer County
An incident involving a car and an Amish buggy occurred in the Town of Schuyler, Herkimer County. State Police responded to the accident on Cosby Manor Road on October 3, 2025, at around 7:58 a.m. The driver of a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta, Matthew L. Walker, 45, of Remsen, NY, was traveling at an unsafe speed behind an Amish horse-drawn buggy and tried to pass it, leading to a collision. The buggy occupants, Moses J. Swartzentruber, 40, of Poland, NY, and Andy J. Troyer, 30, of Poland, NY, were thrown out. Troyer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to Wynn Hospital, while Swartzentruber was unharmed. Fortunately, the horse pulling the buggy was unharmed as well. Though Walker escaped injury, he received multiple traffic citations, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
