One person dead, police officer severely hurt in chase crash
A tragic incident occurred in the San Gabriel Valley on Thursday morning, resulting in one fatality and a police officer with severe injuries following a pursuit collision. The officer was chasing a gray SUV in Alhambra around 3 a.m. when the crash happened at Valley Boulevard and Edgewood Drive. The SUV collided with the police vehicle before coming to a halt in a nearby parking lot, causing significant damage to the police SUV. Emergency personnel were seen trying to extricate the injured officer from the vehicle. The wounded officer was taken to Los Angeles General Medical Center in Boyle Heights, but no update on their condition has been provided. Additionally, two individuals from the SUV, one of whom was believed to be the driver, were ejected. Tragically, the woman identified as the driver was pronounced deceased at the scene. The other occupants of the SUV were taken to a local hospital, with one in critical condition and the other with minor injuries. The reason for the SUV pursuit remains unclear, and an investigation is ongoing, leading to the closure of Valley Boulevard between Date Avenue and South Fremont Street.
