One person dead after northeast Columbus crash on I-270 exit ramp
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) — Multiple agencies have responded to a crash scene in northeast Columbus where one person has been pronounced dead. According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, deputies along with Columbus Division of Police officer responded to a fatal crash on an exit ramp from Interstate 270 North to State Route 61 East. Police said a white 2024 Ford Maverick was driving east on SR-161 before crashed into a barrier just after 6:30 a.m. while attempting to navigate the curve from the interstate to SR-161. One victim was hospitalized in critical condition, but was later pronounced dead at 6:49 a.m. Both the northbound and southbound ramps from I-270 to SR-161 are closed and authorities do not yet have an estimated time before it reopens. Blendon Township police also responded to the scene. Traffic has been diverted to Sunbury Road, but options also include Morse Road to Hamilton Road or Johnstown Road. The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the crash.
