One injured in accident on 61 North

VICKSBURG, Miss. (VDN) — One person has been injured in an accident on 61 North in Warren County. Just after 7 p.m., a white sedan that was southbound on 61 North left the roadway near Keyes Recycling. The vehicle rode the ditch for some distance before slamming into the culvert. A portion of the vehicle was embedded in the culvert, trapping and injuring the driver in the accident. Warren County firefighters including Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs and firefighter Jeremiah O'Neil, along with Rescue, a specially equipped vehicle employed in serious incidents, worked the wreck. First responders used the cutters and spreaders, commonly called the "Jaws of Life" to remove the top of the vehicle giving them access to the cab of the white sedan. Once the top was removed, they used the spreaders to create room to extract the injured party from the wreckage. The top of the vehicle was removed in the effort to free the driver. The MHP will conduct the investigation of the accident. The driver was transported to an area hospital. His condition is unknown at the time of this report.
