One individual facing charges for deadly collision in North Clay County
A tragic incident occurred in Northern Clay County, resulting in the death of a man who was hit by a driver suspected of being under the influence of alcohol. The collision took place on Sunday night at the intersection of County Road 1450 North and State Road 59. The driver, identified as Courtney Withers of Carbon, Indiana, was traveling westbound when she failed to see the pedestrian, Samuel Chambers. Chambers, a resident of Carbon, Indiana, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Withers showed signs of impairment and failed a sobriety test. Subsequent chemical test results are still pending. With a child under 18 in her vehicle, Withers faces charges of causing death while driving under the influence and driving under the influence with a minor.
