Olney teen being charged as adult in deadly car crash, police say

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- A teenager from Olney was arrested and charged in a deadly car crash in Montgomery County. The Montgomery County Department of Police (MCPD) said the 17-year-old boy turned himself in on Tuesday for his involvement in a car crash that killed a man from Bethesda on Feb. 19. The incident happened around 2:30 p.m. in the 2600 block of Olney-Sandy Spring Road. Investigators determined that the teenager was driving 86 mph in his Jeep in a 40 mph zone. He was using right-turn only lanes to pass by cars that were stopped at red lights and would weave through traffic by making multiple lane changes. MCPD said evidence shows that he was also using his phone. Isadore Morton Gudelsky, 56, was driving a Lexus. After the crash, officers found him unresponsive in his car, where he had been pinned inside. Gudelsky was taken to the hospital, where he later died. A woman was also in the Lexus, but she was able to get out of the car on her own and was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. MCPD said the 17-year-old Jeep driver was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. He is being held at the Montgomery County Central Processing Unit. He was charged as an adult with manslaughter by vehicle or vessel - gross negligence.
