Ohio man sentenced to 15 years for deadly heroin-related DUI accident in West Virginia

A man from Steubenville has been sentenced to serve three to 15 years in prison by 1st Judicial Circuit Judge Jason Cuomo after causing a crash that resulted in the death of a passenger while driving under the influence of drugs. Chad Keyser, 36, received this sentence for pleading guilty in May to a charge of DUI causing death. The incident occurred on May 3, 2024, when Keyser's vehicle collided with a support pole for a traffic signal on state Route 2 near the Follansbee Walgreens. The passenger, Christine Michelle Shannon, tragically suffered severe injuries and passed away at WVU Medicine-Weirton Medical Center. Keyser admitted to taking heroin before driving, as stated by Brooke County Prosecuting Attorney Allison Cowden. Keyser may face a driver's license revocation of up to 10 years following his prison release under West Virginia law.
