Officials provide new details on fatal Poway collision that claimed five lives
Law enforcement officials have provided further details about a tragic crash in Poway that resulted in the deaths of five individuals on a Friday afternoon. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, the accident involved three vehicles and occurred at 12:30 p.m. on State Route 67, just north of Iron Mountain Drive and east of Poway. A Chevy Silverado pickup truck traveling north crossed into oncoming traffic at a high speed, resulting in a head-on collision with a white Honda Civic heading south. A Toyota Tacoma with three occupants also collided with the Honda Civic. This series of events led to a vehicle being sent down a ravine and a brush fire igniting beside the highway, which firefighters quickly extinguished. Unfortunately, all five individuals involved lost their lives at the scene. Investigators are working to determine the cause of the pickup truck veering into the opposite lanes and are examining footage captured by a passing Tesla. While two of the victims have been identified as Marcial Rivera, 59, and his son, Emmanuel Rivera, 32, the names of the other three victims have not yet been disclosed by the authorities. The family has initiated a GoFundMe campaign and plans to hold a fundraiser on Sunday in their memory. Anyone with relevant information is urged to contact the Poway Sheriff's Station at 858-513-2800.
