Officials identify deputy, suspect in deadly police chase, crash in Harford County

The Independent Investigations Division (IID) of the Maryland Office of the Attorney General has identified the Harford County Sheriff's Office deputy involved in the deadly police-involved crash from earlier this week. On June 9, authorities said they observed what they believed to be a drug transaction on Meadwood Drive in Belcamp, and they soon discovered that the car involved had several violations. When authorities attempted to stop the vehicle near Long Bar Harbor, the driver refused to pull over. The driver then headed eastbound on Route 40 and passed through the intersection at Bata Boulevard. Upon reaching the intersection of Route 40 and Route 543, police said the vehicle collided with four other cars, causing the suspect's vehicle to catch fire. The driver in the car became trapped due to the crash and died. Two other people were taken to a nearby hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Officials said the entire police pursuit lasted 96 seconds. The involved deputy was identified as Senior Deputy Allen Kennings, a 10-year veteran of the department, according to the IID. He was wearing a body-worn camera, and the his cruiser is equipped with a dashboard camera that recorded the crash. The IID said it will generally release that footage within 20 business days of the incident. The deceased suspect's identity will be released once it's confirmed. Circumstances of the chase and deadly crash are still under investigation.
